According to a recent development, Mike Hesson, who is presently playing for Islamabad United in the PSL 2025, would assume the role for the Pakistan Men’s Senior team after the league is over. After Gary Kirsten resigned, Javed was brought on as a temporary solution, and according to Daily Ausaf, Hesson is now prepared to take up the role formally.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on its website on Saturday that it is seeking a new permanent head coach. According to rumours, Aqib Javed’s contract as interim coach ended in February 2025. The board is searching for a new coach because the current one is not interested in extending his contract. According to the information, the Pakistan cricket team needs a coach who is at least ten years experienced coaching national or domestic cricket teams.
Javed was granted an extension for the white-ball series against New Zealand, even though his original plan was to stop at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Notably, Mike Hesson has experience working with a number of successful teams and is being considered as a possible head coach.
Mike Hesson was the director of cricket for Royal Challengers Bangalore (now Bengaluru) prior to joining the Islamabad United team. The New Zealand-born player is a strong contender for the position because of his brief stint with the BlackCaps national team.
Although Mike Hesson case appears better given the PSL experience, legendary spinner Saqlain Mushtaq has also been mentioned as a possible candidate for the role. It is important to note that the Kiwi made his PSL debut when Islamabad United won the ninth edition. With four victories in their first four games of the current tenth season, the Shadab Khan-led team is experiencing an incredible run.
