Eoin Morgan, a former captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders and England, evaluated the team’s subpar performance in their most recent IPL 2025 match against the Gujarat Titans. After the first few overs, KKR, who were chasing 199 runs, didn’t appear to be in a position to score the necessary number. They ultimately fell behind by 39 runs.
Morgan asserted that with the humiliating loss to PBKS, the reigning champions were unable to recover. The Englishman believed that the majority of KKR’s losses in the current tournament followed similar trends.
“The Kolkata Knight Riders have just not recovered as effectively as we had hoped. Morgan told JioHotstar, “It’s always a positive sign for a strong team with a lot of character, but they had the same failures they’ve shown throughout the tournament.”
Morgan pointed out that Angkrish Raghuvanshi, KKR’s best batsman of the season, came down to bat at number nine, which did not work well for them. This was one of the major adjustments in the team’s batting order.
They made a few adjustments, mostly to try to give their batting lineup more energy, but it didn’t always work well. Were the modifications worthwhile? They’ll sit back and say no,” the former KKR batsman continued.
Morgan then went over Ajinkya Rahane’s remarks regarding KKR’s defeat at the hands of GT, in which the latter asserted that a target of 199 might be pursued. After evaluating the match, the former captain of England believed that the surface allowed the ball to cling to the deck to some extent. He noticed that it was more difficult to hit boundaries and to create rhythm. While Morgan commended GT for batting well by stitching excellent partnerships, he felt KKR could not accomplish it, and stated it was the reason behind their loss.
Hearing Ajinkya Rahane discuss how 199 is a chaseable score was intriguing. Because we believed the ball held up better than we anticipated towards the end of the Gujarat Titans’ innings. It was more difficult to establish boundaries because of this. However, Morgan continued, “there was no rhythm, no significant partnerships—almost the exact opposite of what Gujarat Titans displayed today.”
Seeing Prasidh Krishna develop as a player is fantastic: Eoin Morgan
Prasidh Krishna’s bowling effort against KKR and during the IPL 2025 was commended by Morgan. He asserted that the current Purple Cap holder’s rhythm has been improving. The former skipper of the ODI World Cup praised Prasidh for adjusting to his pace and enabling his team to make an impression during the middle-overs phase.
His rhythm only keeps improving, and he currently holds the Purple Cap. We know he has that additional bit of pace to work with, but you have to love the strength he brings during the middle period of the game. “Having a seamer who can have that kind of impact in the middle overs is invaluable as a captain,” Morgan continued.
The Englishman, who led Krishna in the IPL, praised his strong start to the season, noting that he had taken four more wickets than the next-best player on the list. Morgan said in closing that it was wonderful to watch Krishna’s development throughout formats and receive accolades from the Indian cricket team.
He currently holds the record for most wickets in this year’s competition—by a considerable four. It’s fantastic to watch him develop as a player, change between formats, and now receive national laurels as well,” Morgan said.
