Vignesh Puthur, a spinner for the Mumbai Indians (MI), talked candidly about his feelings after taking a photo with MS Dhoni following the IPL 2025 match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
MI faced their bitter rivals at their home stadium, Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, where they won by nine wickets to exact revenge for the loss in the opening game, which took place in Chennai on March 23. With two outstanding half-centuries, Rohit Sharma (76 off 45) and Suryakumar Yadav (68 off 30) devastated the Men in Yellow. Before Rohit and began attacking the bowlers in the powerplay, the Chennai-based team’s 176 runs appeared to be a competitive total.
MI was not significantly impacted by Ryan Rickelton’s wicket because Suryakumar easily won the remainder of the match. The bowlers for the Super Kings had a poor day, missing the breakthroughs that would have altered the outcome of the match.
Following the match, the young spinner was seen taking photos with MS Dhoni, his idol. “A moment that my younger self would never believe, with the man who inspired a generation,” the post’s description read.
Those extra runs were necessary: MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni, the captain of CSK, discussed the team and their shortcomings against MI in the meantime. They needed a few more runs, Dhoni said, since 175 was not a good target. The Super Kings will be the first team in IPL history to miss out on the playoffs for two straight seasons, and their chances of making it are now slim.
We were in a position to take advantage of the middle overs, and we all knew that dew would arrive in the second half, so I believe we were much below par. Since Bumrah is currently among the top death bowlers in the world, I just believed that we should have taken advantage of the fact that they started their death bowling early and started our slog a little earlier.
It would have been advantageous even if Bumrah had continued to run. We could have scored a little bit more in a couple of the overs, in my opinion. At the post-match presentation, Dhoni stated, “With the dew around, 175, is not a par score, so we needed those extra runs.”
