Although the LSG are enjoying a respectable season, Rishabh Pant’s subpar play continues to be a concern for the team. The LSG captain and most expensive player in the IPL has not yet shown any consistency in the competition.
The Gabba Hero and 2024 T20 World Champion has received a lot of criticism because, in the eight games he has played, he has only amassed 106 runs at an average of 15.14. Manoj Tiwary, a former Indian cricket player and IPL 2012 winner, is among the experts and commentators who have criticised him. He suggested that the 27-year-old try playing more traditional cricket and brought up the instance of former India great batter Sunil Gavaskar becoming irate with him while providing commentary.
Rishabh Pant is a player that possesses an abundance of talent.
He does a reverse sweep even though there is no need for him to do so. For this reason, Sunil Gavaskar became agitated during the Border-Gavaskar series Test match. Even he is aware of Pant’s immense talent, which allows him to score runs in straight-bat cricket. What stops him from doing that, then? What makes him choose the unusual? Speaking to Cricbuzz, Tiwary stated.
Virat Kohli is the person he should learn from if he must: Manoj Tiwary
In order to improve his form, Tiwary also said that the daring wicketkeeper-batter could take a cue from players like Virat Kohli. He stated that the great hitter should teach him how to construct his innings and not worry about strike rate at all.
“Virat Kohli is the best person for him to learn from if he must. Kohli did not play at a strike rate of 100 in the 50-over format when he first entered the international scene. He built his innings slowly, sometimes scoring only five runs in ten balls and other times scoring seven. Now, Pant needs to take a moment to accomplish that. When you look at it, it might not appear to be a 20-over match, so you feel pressured to perform well and end it fast. However, a T20 innings consists of 120 balls,” Tiwary said.
