In the thrilling match between the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Saturday, April 19, Vaibhav Suryavanshi made his debut at the age of 14 years and 23 days, becoming the youngest player in IPL (Indian Premier League) history. The game was played in Jaipur’s famous Sawai Mansingh Stadium, which is noteworthy.
As they chased a 181-run goal in the second innings, the youthful player started the batting for the first-ever champions. He stunned everyone, including bowler Shardul Thakur, with a six off the first ball he faced. The Bihar-born batsman gave his team a strong start with a 20-ball 34 that included three sixes and two fours.
Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi compiled an 85-run partnership for the first wicket.
Sanjay Manjrekar, a former cricket player for India, referred to Vaibhav Suryavanshi as a “wonder boy” and said that his parents would have been proud to watch his mature knock. The former cricket player and now analyst also gave the Rajasthan Royals credit for letting the young player demonstrate his abilities at the top of the order.
Imagine parents watching this who are in their late 30s or early 40s. It was unthinkable. He displayed a high level of maturity against the spinners as his first two sixes came off solid deliveries. Everyone was impressed by him. It appeared as though he may cry when he got out, which would have been quite normal for someone his age, Manjrekar stated on JioHotstar.
“Even with another left-hander at his side, the Rajasthan Royals deserve all the praise for believing in him and providing him with the greatest platform at the top of the order. He went on, “They’ve really revealed a new wonder boy.”
Rajasthan had a great start but lost the match.
The Royals let the game slide from a comfortable position, though, so it wasn’t enough. With six wickets remaining, they only needed nine runs in the final over. However, Shimron Hetmyer was crucially removed by Avesh Khan, who bowled wonderfully and gave up just six runs.
