Dewald Brevis, a young South African international, has joined the Chennai Super Kings for the rest of the 2025 IPL. Gurjapneet Singh, the pacer, has been replaced by Brevis. Since their roster still had one abroad spot available, they were allowed to sign the South African as a replacement. CSK paid INR 2.2 crore for Brevis, despite the fact that his base price at the end of last year’s auction was only INR 75 lakh.
The five-time champions have made a huge move by signing one of the top young players in cricket. Although Brevis has only played a few games for South Africa, he was already well-known a few years ago after being compared to the great AB de Villiers. He has already participated in ten IPL games for the Mumbai Indians and still plays for them in the MLC and SA20.
Dewald Brevis had the greatest strike rate of 184.17 among the top 10 rungetters in the competition.
The 21-year-old has played 81 Twenty20 matches overall and has a strike rate of over 145. Having scored regularly in both List A and first-class games for his home team Titans, he will enter the IPL riding high. Earlier this year, he was also playing well in the SA20. At the halfway point, he will join a struggling CSK team that has only won twice and is currently in last place.
Brevis is CSK’s second substitute player this season. The team has already signed Ayush Mhatre, a Mumbai sensation, to take the position of regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. On April 20, CSK will play their bitter rivals, the Mumbai Indians, in the Wankhede.
