Singapore is set to host the International Cricket Council‘s (ICC) annual meeting. Although the precise dates are still unknown, they might fall in the middle of July. On the basis of the Cricket Committee’s recommendations, the council will have to make some important decisions.
The Cricket Committee, chaired by cricketer and former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, offered some recommendations for the modification of the playing conditions. As a result, they and other issues that require their attention will be discussed during the annual conference. At its most recent meeting in Zimbabwe, the ICC opted to host the conference in Singapore.
Remarkably, ICC Chairman Jay Shah will be presiding over this annual meeting for the first time.
Additionally, the Council is eager to form a distinct committee to investigate the recommendations made by the Cricket Committee. Eliminating the use of two fresh balls in ODI cricket was the first proposal. To give the bowlers more control over the game and enable them to exploit reverse swing in the last overs, only one ball will be used after the 25th over.
In addition, it is possible to institute a 60-second time limit between Test overs. The introduction of in-game clocks during Test matches was suggested as a way to help the captains keep track of time.
Additionally, similar to the women’s U-19 World Cup, it has been suggested that the U-19 Men’s World Cup be held in the T20 format. The World Cricket Association (WCA) and the ICC also spoke. During the meeting, the current financial distribution mechanism will be reviewed and the ICC governance will be restructured.
