Glenn Phillips will be replaced by Dasun Shanaka on the Gujarat Titans’ (GT) IPL 2025 roster. The Sri Lankan will probably soon join GT’s team. During the April 12 game between GT and SRH, Phillips regrettably sustained a groin injury. He was sent home for treatment after being unable to continue playing.
GT issued a statement regarding their top player following the game. The 2022 winners wished the Batting All-rounder a quick recovery and confirmed in their statement that he had returned home for treatment. Sherfane Rutherford has been receiving opportunities for the 2023 finalists in the middle order during his absence. Given his wealth of top-level expertise, Dasun Shanaka involvement in the team could be beneficial. The News Wire allegedly confirmed the new development.

The Gujarat Titans’ experience with Dasun Shanaka as a player
The Sri Lankan player has prior experience playing for the Titans. In the 2023 season, the star player was a member of GT’s team and made a few appearances for the Gujarat-based team. Dasun Shanaka participated in three games and amassed 26 runs at a strike rate of 100.00, an average of 13.00, and a maximum score of 17.
The impact player rule prevented him from bowling. In a lineup like the Titans, for whom Dasun Shanaka has previously played, he could be useful. On his best day, he is one of those players who can win games by himself.
Shanaka’s bowling may not be necessary for GT, but they may benefit from his batsmanship, particularly on slow wickets. The Sri Lankan has spent his entire life in the subcontinent performing on such tracks. Whether he gets a chance in the starting lineup is up in the air.
