Daniel Vettori, the head coach, provided a thorough evaluation of Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) batting performance in the 18th IPL, highlighting the team’s potent opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma.
While Abhishek didn’t had many runs before his game-ending century against the Punjab Kings, Head has been hot and cold in the 2025 Indian Premier League. Because they have made several hasty shots to get out so far this season, some have called both players reckless batters.
But according to Daniel Vettori, people perceive them as dangerous everytime they are fired because they are really aggressive hitters.
“Abhi and Travis have just been able to play their shots and handle any ball on merit when we have been successful in the PowerPlay. When the dismissals do occur, people assume that it might be a little careless because of the reputation for aggressive play and all-out attack, but that’s not how I see it,” Daniel Vettori stated prior to SRH’s match against the Mumbai Indians (MI) on Thursday, April 17.
In their most recent match, SRH broke the run-chase record against Punjab Kings, with Abhishek and Head scoring 171 runs for the first wicket. His opening partner scored 141 off just 55 deliveries as SRH chased down a 246-run total with eight wickets and nine balls remaining, while the Australian batsman scored 66 off 37 balls. The previous champions were able to snap their four-match losing streak thanks to this.
According to Daniel Vettori, both left-handed batters work very hard behind the scenes and do their best to evaluate the opposition bowlers and the conditions. According to the former captain of New Zealand, bowlers occasionally deserve recognition.
“You can’t be successful all the time, and bowlers are allowed to bowl well. However, I am aware of the amount of consideration Abby and Travis give to their batting, as well as how much they evaluate bowlers and situations. And they are aware that they naturally want to hit the ball when it is there. However, I never get the impression that they are acting carelessly or anything similar. They simply have a lot of shots and are excellent players,” Vettori said.
