An IPL media advisory announced on Monday (April 14) that Sunrisers Hyderabad had selected Ravichandran Smaran to replace the injured Adam Zampa.
The announcement also verified Cricbuzz’s earlier claim that Ayush Mhatre was selected by CSK to replace Ruturaj Gaikwad.
While Mumbai batsman Mhatre was acquired by CSK for the same sum, Smaran, a 21-year-old left-handed batsman from Karnataka, joins the SRH setup at his basic price of INR 30 lakh.
Smaran has scored more than 500 runs at an average of 64.50 in seven first-class games, including a double century against Punjab. Since making his List A debut in 2024, he has also participated in 10 List A games, scoring 433 runs at an average of 72.16, including two hundreds, and 170 runs at a strike rate of 170 in six T20 matches.
In the standings, SRH and CSK are both in the bottom half.
