CSK captain MS Dhoni, who took over as captain in the last game against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) when Ruturaj Gaikwad was sidelined for the tournament owing to an elbow injury, thanked the supporters after the toss. The Indian tradition was that, in light of the potential for dew later in the game, CSK would bowl first.
The Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow will host the match between the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 14. Having dropped five straight games in the IPL 2025 season, CSK has been having trouble. In the first game, they defeated the Mumbai Indians (MI), which has been their lone victory thus far.
The top six batsmen have been erratic throughout the tournament, the former Indian cricket player admitted. He underlined the significance of taking huge chances and keeping a positive outlook going forward.
“We are fortunate to have good support. I’d like to thank all of the fans. Since there is a potential of dew here, we would want to bowl first. The wicket improves. Establishing the proper temperament is crucial. Our batting hasn’t been reliable lately. Our top six have caused issues. We have a powerful back with the ball. Play those huge shots and maintain a positive attitude.
At the toss, MS Dhoni stated, “It’s just a matter of time.”
For the match against LSG, CSK made two changes to their starting lineup. Devon Conway was replaced by Shaik Rasheed, while Ravichandran Ashwin was replaced by Jamie Overton. Conversely, LSG added Mitchell Marsh to their roster.
For CSK to maintain their prospects of making the playoffs, they must win this game. It would be very difficult to qualify if we lost here. LSG will try to keep up their momentum and triumph in front of their home crowd in the meantime.
