Abhishek Sharma took a time to reflect on something very personal during one of the most remarkable run chases in IPL history. The 24-year-old lifted his bat, punched the air in joy, and then put up a message that said, “THIS ONE IS FOR ORANGE ARMY,” among six other simple things, shortly after achieving his first IPL century.
He would admit that it wasn’t a practiced move, but rather the result of ideas that had been simmering inside of him since the morning. “I wrote it today only because usually I wake up and write something,” remarked Abhishek. “I had a weird idea today that if I do anything, it will be for the Orange Army. Fortunately, I believed that today was my day. I believe it was a fortunate day for me to write it today.
It would be an understatement to say lucky. Abhishek achieved more than just a century; he amassed 141 off 55 balls, the third-highest total and the best individual score by an Indian in IPL history. Sunrisers Hyderabad reached the second-highest successful chase in IPL history thanks to his effort, which allowed them easily defeat a 246-run target. Additionally, the accomplishment ended SRH’s four-match losing streak.
“If I say no, it will be a lie,” Abhishek expressed openly while discussing the pressure he was under before this match. “Obviously, if you are struggling for three or four innings, there is pressure. particularly if you’re losing games. Thus, I believe that each member of a team is under some strain.
However, as I mentioned during the [presenting] ceremony, I didn’t think that anyone on the squad thought we were losing the game or anything. You know, nobody had a bad attitude. Just good vibes from everybody. because everyone was anticipating a great event from the SRH crew. Fortunately, we had to end this run today.
Abhishek Sharma build-up to this match wasn’t ideal, and it wasn’t simply form either. During the five days off between games, he was also ill.
“I must admit that I felt ill for four days. “I had a temperature,” Abhishek Sharma disclosed. “But fortunately, you know, I feel really thankful to have individuals like Suryakumar [Yadav] and Yuvraj Singh around me, as they were the ones who kept phoning me. since they were aware that I was capable of doing anything similar. However, any player would have begun to question themselves on a personal level. However, it was quite obvious that they had faith in me. And it goes without saying that you begin to believe in yourself again when someone like them does.
Abhishek Sharma had the kind of night where everything lined up for him, including the openings in the field and the way his bat matched the ball’s trajectory.
“What do you think, Klaasen?” I said. “Just go for it,” he advised. Still, Abhishek Sharma remarked of the run chase, “I felt like if I keep going in this situation, the match can end early.” “I believe that if it’s your day, there isn’t a complete sense of safety here. That’s what I was thinking. I believed that today was my day and that I needed to defeat the squad.
The Punjab Kings attack was dejected and out of ideas after Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head’s historic opening stand of 171 runs smashed records. His particular innings contained 10 sixes, the most ever by an SRH hitter in a single innings, and 24 boundaries, the second-most in an IPL innings after Chris Gayle.
Regarding the record opening stand, Abhishek Sharma remarked, “There was nothing going on in between us when we were at the pitch,” “It was simply playing your game and keeping an eye on the ball. Because we’ve always been on the winning side when we’ve played as partners or done anything for the team. We therefore understood that if we were to offer the team what they desired, it would occur. And the conversations were really basic. One of the most beneficial things Travis and I do is simply congratulate one another, even if you don’t notice it.
But for Abhishek Sharma, records weren’t the point. After a lacklustre start to the season, it was about the team, its supporters, and the moment he had been waiting for.
“The message I wrote, I thought if it’s my day, I am going to dedicate it to the Orange Army and to Hyderabad,” said Abhishek Sharma.
No one can merely say it and execute it, in my opinion, if you ask any batter. It simply occurs on your day. All I wanted was for my day to arrive so I could fulfil my responsibility to the squad. And that day came today.
