Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals (RR), was fined INR 24 lakh for his team’s second IPL 2025 over-rate offence. Samson and his side received a fine for playing Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on Wednesday at a slow over rate.
According to Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, a captain who commits a second over-rate offence in a season faces a fine of INR 24 million, while the IPL has eliminated match suspensions for a third offence. The Impact Player and the other players in the starting XII shall each receive a fine of INR 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever is lower.
However, under Riyan Parag’s leadership, RR committed its first over-rate penalty this IPL when Samson was limited to playing as an impact player due to a finger injury.
Last month, Parag was fined INR 24 lakh for the first infraction against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
After winning their last two games in a row, RR suffered their third defeat of the season in five games, which included their second offence. Right now, they are ranked eighth in the standings.
