Priyansh Arya, the opener for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 22nd IPL 2025 match, had a tremendous knock, smashing the CSK bowlers all over the ground and getting a fantastic century. His brilliant innings contributed to Punjab’s impressive 219-point total.
PBKS got off to a great start in the first over delivered by Khaleel Ahmed after winning the toss and choosing to bat. By hitting two sixes early on, the left-hander set the tone. But Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed by Mukesh Choudhary in the next over. The opener anchored the batting, hitting every loose delivery even when wickets were falling at the other end.
The 24-year-old scored a scorching 103 off just 42 balls, including seven fours and nine sixes, before losing to Noor Ahmad in the 14th over. His knock gave the middle order a solid platform on which to build, and late bursts from Marco Jansen (34*) and Shashank Singh (52*) propelled the side to a high total.
The left-hander thought that he felt confident inside after the century. He acknowledged that Shreyas Iyer’s counsel to follow his gut led him to play freely, taking advantage of advantageous circumstances and aiming for early innovations.
“Even if I don’t express myself, I feel really good about myself. When Shreyas Iyer discussed trusting your gut during the last game, he advised me to play the way I wanted to. I was thinking that I would undoubtedly hit the first ball in my slot for a six. I don’t want to limit myself; I want to express myself as much as possible.
“We need to bowl well in the powerplay and take wickets because the ball is coming onto the bat nicely and isn’t turning much,” Priyansh Arya told the host announcer during the innings break.
CSK needed 220 runs to win their second game of the season after PBKS set a ridiculous target, while PBKS sought to recover from their last defeat.
