For Zimbabwe’s next two-Test series against Bangladesh, Craig Ervine and Sean Williams will rejoin the Test team. The senior duo was absent from Zimbabwe’s February Test match against Ireland. Ervine, the captain, was called in at the last minute because of a personal problem, while Williams missed the duty because of a back injury.
The team that was originally selected for that Ireland Test has undergone three alterations by Zimbabwe’s selectors. Two years after making his debut against the West Indies, keeper-bat Tafadzwa Tsiga is back in the lineup. He takes Joylord Gumbie’s place. Newman Nyamhuri is replaced by Wellington Masakadza, who also played the final of his three Test matches thus far in that series in the Caribbean.
Wessly Madhevere kept his spot in the team, while top-order batsman Takudzwanashe Kaitano was left off the roster. Ervine had been called up at the last minute to take Madhevere’s place for the Test match against Ireland.
Sylhet (April 20–24) and Chattogram (April 28–May 2) will host the two Test matches. This is Zimbabwe’s first Test match in Bangladesh since the hosts won a one-off game in Dhaka in February 2020 by an innings and 106 runs.
