Prior to the Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) April 5 match against the Delhi Capitals at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, batting coach Michael Hussey provided an update on Ruturaj Gaikwad’s injury.
Depending on Ruturaj Gaikwad fitness, Hussey said the final decision about the captain’s availability will be made closer to the match. When the CSK captain attempted to dodge Tushar Deshpande’s rising delivery, which spicy bounced from a short of decent length, he was struck in the elbow against the Rajasthan Royals. Ruturaj is putting in a lot of effort in the nets, but Hussey said he is still “bit sore.”
Indeed, it is our hope that he will attempt to use a bat for training today. Yes, it is still a little sore, but it gets better every day. Therefore, we have a lot of faith and confidence that he will be okay for tomorrow, Saturday,” Hussey added.
The Australian said that he was unsure and that the captain-coach team had considered replacing Ruturaj Gaikwad.
“I don’t know. We haven’t given that much thought, I believe. Well, I haven’t given it any thought. Ruturaj Gaikwad and (Stephen) Fleming have undoubtedly considered that,” Hussey continued.
Without mentioning his name, he then sarcastically proposed MS Dhoni as a potential replacement for Ruturaj as captain, saying that the “young guy” who stays “behind the stumps” can step up and take over.
However, there’s a young man emerging. Behind the stumps is where he is. He could be able to do well. I don’t know. Perhaps he could do it because he has some experience in the position. To be honest, though, I’m not entirely certain,” Hussey asserted. The 17th IPL 2025 match between CSK and DC will take place in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.
