Mohammed Siraj of the Gujarat Titans received a lot of appreciation from former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag for his outstanding bowling performance against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Match 14 of the current Indian Premier League. Notably, Siraj defeated his old team in his debut game with impressive stats of 3/19.
Virender Sehwag even went so far as to suggest that if the speedster hadn’t been removed after bowling three consecutive overs during the powerplay, he might have grabbed another wicket.
If Siraj had bowled four consecutive overs, he could have taken another wicket. That fire is in him. We want a young fast bowler to have that passion in his performance, and I sense that he is hurt someplace,” Virender Sehwag told Cricbuzz.
During the powerplay, Siraj notably took out Phil Salt and Devdutt Padikkal. Liam Livingstone was dismissed on the second delivery of his last over (RCB’s 19th). Siraj produced a remarkable four-over spell that included 14 dot deliveries.
With 13 deliveries remaining, GT easily defeated the hosts by an eight-wicket margin. Because of his strong performance in the game’s opening innings, Siraj was chosen for Player of the Match rather than wicketkeeper-batter Jos Buttler (73* off 39).
Prior to the IPL 2025 mega auction, Siraj was released by RCB after seven arduous seasons with the team. The majority of RCB fans were anticipating the ardent pacer to be part of the team’s future plans, hence the news was rather shocking to them. Notably, at the two-day mega auction in Jeddah, Siraj was purchased by GT for INR 12.25 crore.
