After being fined for his slow over-rate against GT, would Hardik Pandya face another ban?
Mumbai Indians (MI) skipper Hardik Pandya was fined INR 12 lakh for keeping up a sluggish over-rate against Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on March 29 (Saturday) during his opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025.

Ironically, Hardik Pandya one-match ban from the IPL 2024 prevented him from playing in the opening match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). In the IPL 2025, the all-rounder becomes the first skipper to get a fine for a slow over-rate infraction.

According to the official statement, “this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences.”

The IPL’s governing council changed the rules of play prior to the start of this season, removing the possibility of captains being suspended for slow over-rate violations.

Demerit points will now be awarded to captains and will be carried over for three years. Only in severe circumstances will the prohibition be implemented.

According to an official statement from the BCCI, “a new Code of Conduct will be implemented from the TATA IPL 2025 season, effective this season, introducing a demerit points system and suspension points which will remain valid for 36 months.”

MI will next play the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Monday, March 31, after losing both of their IPL 2025 matches thus far.
