Relaxed Head on Shoulders, Top Spin Hitter: Phil Salt On Why Rajat Patidar Is An Excellent Captain

One of Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) new recruits for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, Phil Salt, was all praise for the team’s new captain, Rajat Patidar, after his team defeated the Chennai Super Kings at home by a massive 50 runs on March 28 (Friday), ending a 17-year losing streak at Chepauk.

During the press conference following the game, Salt praised Patidar’s leadership, saying, “Excellent captaincy.” It’s one thing to seize the initiative with the new ball, of course, but it’s quite another to keep the pressure on the opposition throughout the entire game. You have to give the bowlers and Rajat credit for that.

The player who opened the scoring with a 32 from 16 balls said, “If I am being honest, I think he is brilliant in all areas.”

“He is right up there with the best around,” Phil Salt said in reference to Patidar’s batting, particularly when it comes to against spin.

He can hit spin like no one else I’ve seen. In particular, he blasted some incredible sixes on some of those slower balls.

Phil Salt, who has managed numerous teams, including the senior men’s team of England on occasion, was grateful for Patidar’s style of play, which keeps the opposition from ever getting away with it.

When it comes to his captaincy, he is composed under pressure and possesses a cricket brain that contemplates the game in great detail. The 28-year-old Salt, who was thrilled with his team’s two-in-two start to the season, added, “There’s not much you can ask for, the way he spun (rotated) the bowlers around tonight, not letting the pressure off the opposition.”
