Stuart Law was named head coach of the Nepali men.

Stuart Law, a former batter from Australia, has been named head coach of the Nepal men for the upcoming two years.

He takes over for Monty Desai, who left in February of this year after a two-year term.

In addition to his extensive coaching background, Law most recently coached the USA men’s squad. In the past, he has served as interim head coach of Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, and Bangladesh in addition to the West Indies.

Additionally, he has coached the Bangladesh Under-19 team. In 2012, he guided Bangladesh to their first Asia Cup final. In Australia, he also served as the national team’s batting coach, worked at CA’s Centre of Excellence, and coached the Under-19 squad. In addition, he has participated in one Test and 54 ODIs for Australia.

In October 2024, he was fired from his position in the USA. The team had advanced to the Super-Eights stage of the T20 World Cup for the first time in their history after defeating Bangladesh in a T20I series, but his stay had lasted just over seven months.

A few months after making their second appearance in the T20 World Cup in June 2024 in the USA, where they lost all three of their games, Nepal just thrashed the USA 3-0 in T20Is under Desai. Nepal had previously blanked Canada 3-0 in a home ODI series at the beginning of 2024. Nepal also participated in the ODI Asia Cup prior to the 2023 ODI World Cup, but they were eliminated without winning a game.

As part of World Cup League 2 fixtures, Nepal will play Scotland and the Netherlands in a tri-series in June. This will be Law’s maiden assignment. Right now, Nepal is ranked second-to-last in the men’s World Cup League 2 standings.
