In IPL history, star bowler Shardul Thakur has reached the milestone of 100 wickets. The player reached the milestone during the seventh IPL 2025 match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. It took the star pacer 97 games to reach the three-figure wicket milestone.
In the game, Shardul Thakur bowled the opening over and got rid of the dangerous Abhishek Sharma in the third over.
Ishan Kishan also returned to the pavilion with the very next delivery, but wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant caught him. Both wickets significantly hampered SRH’s strategy for the first innings, particularly during the powerplay when they had a chance to score 62 runs—much fewer than they have recently done.
Shardul Thakur returned for his second spell and took out Abhinav Manohar, a slog hitter who scored just two runs off six balls. Mohammed Shami of Hyderabad took his 100th wicket in the prestigious event, making him the fourth and last victim of the Mumbai cricketer in the encounter. His numbers with the ball at the end of the innings were 4-0-34-4.
The famous cricket player has played for six different league teams, most recently LSG. Curiously, Shardul Thakur was not eligible to participate in the IPL 2025 since he was not purchased during the massive auction held prior to the competition’s eighteenth edition. However, Mohsin Khan’s injury made it possible for him to return to the league in a fairly strange way, but the Palghar Express seized the chance. The IPL 2025 Purple Cap is currently in his possession as well.
“All of these things keep happening in the IPL. Regretfully, there were not many injuries reported, and not many people asked if I might join the camp. However, I had to accept it as LSG came up to me first. I received a call from Zaheer Khan. In cricket, you have to deal with both good and bad days. Being on the scoresheet is always nice, but I care more about winning the game.
I never stop doing something. I only want to produce performances that win games; I don’t pay much attention to the wickets or runs columns. Why not go hard at bowlers since they are coming hard at them? The idea was to attack them as a group. “They have been going heavy from the start on flat pitches, so we thought we’d do well if we get early wickets,” Shardul stated at the presentation of the mid-innings.
