It was previously thought that Harry Brook, Buttler’s Champions Trophy deputy, would take over as England’s next white ball setup manager.
The mystery of who would be the next white-ball captain of England has yet to be completed, and a fresh candidate has entered the race. The team’s most successful batter in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Ben Duckett, expressed his wish to lead England, saying it would be a dream come true for him.
“Obviously, being England’s captain would be an absolute dream. Duckett told Sky Sports, “I don’t think it’s on the radar, but I don’t know that, which is why I am answering like that.”
“We’ll see what transpires and what choices are made in the future. Right now, I am simply content with my role as an England player. I wouldn’t have seen myself doing that three or four years ago, so I’m just delighted to be playing all three formats and living out my childhood ambition while representing my nation,” the southpaw continued.
Duckett has exuded confidence ever since he made his Test comeback at the beginning of the Bazball era, and his form reflects this as well.
The 30-year-old has amassed 2,270 runs in Test matches, 412 in T20Is, and 1,058 in ODIs. To date, he has participated in 32 Test matches, 17 T20Is, and 22 ODIS.
Sam Billings, who isn’t even a member of the England white-ball team at the moment, also believed he would be a great match for the position.
You would undoubtedly seize such an opportunity, and I would be honored. “I think I can contribute something worthwhile,” Billings told the BBC.
