The April 6 match between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Eden Gardens may be rescheduled for a new day or location. Because the game occurs on the same day as the Ram Navami holiday, the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has asked the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reschedule it.
The Kolkata police and municipal authorities were unable to provide sufficient protection on that day, which is what led the CAB to request a postponement.
“Despite it being a day fixture, the government and police made it apparent throughout our lengthy conversations that they would not be able to provide sufficient protection because of the celebrations. CAB president Snehasish Ganguly told Sportstar, “We have now asked the BCCI for a rescheduling, and hopefully we will have clarity over the next couple of days.”
The BCCI has received an official request from the CAB, but given how full the calendar is for the entire season, it doesn’t seem likely to be approved. As an alternative, the game might be rescheduled to a different location.
“We are currently investigating the options after receiving a formal request from the CAB, which indicates that it is in contact with the logistics and corresponding teams to find a solution,” a BCCI source stated.
For the same reason, a KKR match at Eden Gardens in the 2024 Indian Premier League was postponed. What transpires this time is still up in the air. According to the BCCI source, there is a significant demand for game tickets, hence an other plan is being developed. Furthermore, Sanjiv Goenka, the owner of LSG, may like the game to be played in Kolkata because he has business ties there.
