The National Cricket Academy, which is now the BCCI Centre of Excellence, has deemed young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy well enough to play cricket again. In order to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, the Andhra Pradesh native will now be joining the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) team.
For the record, following the first Twenty20 International of the just finished series against England, Reddy suffered a side strain injury. After being disqualified from the series, he was forced to go to the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru for rehabilitation. The good news is that the man from Visakhapatnam is now well enough to resume his duties and will be seen working for the Orange Army.
With 303 runs at an average of 33.66 and a strike of 142.92, the star batsman was the discovery of the previous season and was also named the IPL 2024 Emerging Player of the Season for his incredibly amazing tenure. The pace-bowling all-rounder, who primarily played as an Impact Substitute, contributed three wickets in seven innings to help SRH get to the final, where they were defeated by the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Nitish Kumar Reddy made his debut for India in a Twenty20 International series against Bangladesh after a spectacular performance in the lucrative event earned him a call-up to the national squad.
He made his Test debut against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, where the tourists lost 1-3. He finished as India’s second-highest run scorer. During the Boxing Day match at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the 21-year-old also recorded his first century.
On March 23, SRH will play RR to continue the IPL 2025 season.
Ahead of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction, the Hyderabad-based team also signed him. He will join a group that also includes Pat Cummins, Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Mohammed Shami, and Ishan Kishan.
On Sunday, March 23, the Sunrisers will play the Rajasthan Royals in their season-opening match at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium. The team captained by Pat Cummins, who finished second in 2024, will be keen to advance and win the franchise’s second trophy, which they previously did in 2016 under the famous David Warner.
