Cooper Connolly was eventually out caught-behind by KL Rahul for a nine-ball duck after Shami had dismissed him. In the 2025 Champions Trophy semi-final match between India and Australia, which took place at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai on March 4, fiery pacer Mohammed Shami had Cooper Connolly dance to his music.
In the high-stress match, the southpaw opened the batting with Travis Head after Matthew Short was injured. He appeared to be in a lot of difficulty with the Bengal seamer, though, as he played and missed a number of deliveries against Shami. After three overs with only four runs scored, Australia lost their first wicket. Connolly recognized Shami’s indisputable bowling ability in a recent interview, calling the 34-year-old a “world-class bowler.”
“Shami has a cause for becoming a top-tier player. He has a lot of cricket experience. The ICC quoted Connolly as stating, “I think we learned a lot as a group from that. In the end, it was a great game of cricket.”
Cooper Connolly also discussed the lost opportunity when he dropped Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, at backward point in the third over of the run-chase. He claimed, however, that he was able to focus on the ball delivery and ignore the fielding error, which put an end to Rohit’s 28-run innings. He ended up taking his first ODI wicket.
It’s the cricket game. You have to focus on what’s in front of you because you’re going to miss out and make a catch. By the time he bowled, he said, “I was just trying to compete as much as I could and hopefully get a breakthrough for the team. That (drop off Rohit) was completely out of my mind.”
Cooper Connolly bowled brilliantly against India in the CT 2025 semifinal.
Cooper Connolly Despite bowling well, Connolly was unable to increase his total number of wickets. Interestingly, he took out Rohit Sharma, a crucial wicket up front. He gave up 37 runs in his eight overs of bowling. With 11 balls remaining, the Men in Blue chased down a 265-run goal and triumphed by four wickets. Connolly, who has so far participated in one Test, four ODIs, and two T20Is, will play for Western Australia against Victoria in Match 29 of the Sheffield Shield on March 15 in Perth.
