'I didn't get the recognition'- Shreyas Iyer on Kolkata Knight Riders releasing him ahead of major auction

The 2025 Indian Premier League will include a number of well-known Indian players who have recently excelled in the Champions Trophy. Shreyas Iyer was India’s top run scorer in the competition. He may have been cut by the Kolkata Knight Riders, but he will still be guiding the Punjab Kings this time.

After being signed by the team for INR 26.75 crore, the daring middle-order batsman has had an incredible time leading the IPL.

Fans were astonished to learn that Shreyas Iyer was let go by the squad after he featured in two IPL finals and guided the KKR team to their third championship last season.

When asked if he was frustrated that the Mumbai batter was entirely overlooked by the team during the auction, he spoke up about his connection with the team and how his efforts went underappreciated while leading the team last season.

Because I was playing in the IPL, I didn’t feel frustrated. The primary goal was to win the IPL, which I was fortunate to do. After winning the IPL, I felt that I didn’t receive the recognition I desired, but ultimately, what matters most is having integrity and continuing to act morally even when no one is looking, which is what I did,” Iyer stated, as reported by The Times of India.

“When I discuss recognition, I mean gaining that respect. Respect for my efforts on the pitch was the main concern. Since they weren’t easy wickets to bat on, I believe that sometimes my efforts go unrecognised, but I’m really happy with what I did,” Iyer continued.

With 243 runs at an average of 48.60, Shreyas Iyer became the second-highest run scorer in the ICC tournament, according to his record in the Champions Trophy. His greatest score was 79 against New Zealand in a group stage match, although he also scored two half-centuries. He had a fantastic hand in the championship match as well.
