When the Indian cricket team defeated New Zealand in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final, Gautam Gambhir won his first championship as head coach. Gambhir was heavily criticised, particularly during the New Zealand series and the Border Gavaskar Trophy outcomes, for having to fill the enormous vacuum left by Rahul Dravid following India’s victory in the T20 World Cup in 2024. However, he decisively silenced his detractors and guided India to their second-ever Champions Trophy victory.
Gautam Gambhir and former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu had a pleasant and enjoyable conversation among the intense festivities at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. Gambhir’s poetic attempt was directed at Sidhu, who is renowned for his poetic flare.
Gautam Gambhir started the lyric, “Fann kuchalne ka hunar seekhiye janab….,” which Sidhu finished with, “Saapon ke darr se jungle nahi chhore jaate.”
“The Shayari that he asked me to narrate has a lot to say,” Sidhu said on social media after sharing the moment, clearly affected. This is where @GautamGambhir is going to reside. I hope the best for him and the Indian cricket squad. India is proud of you, brother.
The India coach paused when Sidhu playfully asked Gambhir to perform a Bhangra dance. Despite Sidhu’s constant urging, he did not dance, even though he did adopt a Bhangra position.
The Shayari that he asked me to narrate has a lot to say … he @GautamGambhir is here to stay … wish him and the Indian cricket team the very best …. You made India 🇮🇳 proud brother 🏆🏏 pic.twitter.com/TRnJKWh6Ii

Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, commended Gambhir after the game for embracing his aggressive style of play.
“Although I’m not naturally good at offensive games, I really wanted to do it. The staff and management must support you when you try something new, and they did just that for me. Rahul bhai supported me during the ODI World Cup, and Gauti Bhai has now done the same. That assistance is essential,” Rohit said.
