The controversy surrounding the cricket coach for Pakistan keeps getting worse. Former Pakistani head coach Jason Gillespie referred to current coach Aaqib Javed as “a clown” and that he weakened the authority of both Gillespie and his predecessor, Gary Kirsten.
He also charged Javed with covertly setting up his successor as head coach of Pakistan’s men’s squad. On his Instagram account, Gillespie was responding to a post where Javed was accused of blaming the Pakistan men’s team’s poor performance on the team’s numerous management changes.
Jason Gillespie was previously dismissed from his role as Pakistan cricket’s recently recruited red-ball coach, who was also assigned to lead the team on their white-ball tour of Australia.
In an Instagram story, Jason Gillespie wrote, “This is hilarious.
Aaqib was obviously trying to be the coach in all formats while undermining Gary and me behind the scenes. He’s a clown.
The announcement may be made as early as Monday, November 18, following discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following Gary Kirsten’s resignation as the national team’s white-ball coach. They wanted Gillespie to become the new coach for all formats, but without getting paid extra.
The board chose Aaqib Javed, who was appointed convenor of the men’s cricket selection committee earlier in October, because he was readily available to do the three-format tasks.
Javed faced harsh criticism after Pakistan’s disappointing Champions Trophy exit, in which they lost every match.
Despite the board’s efforts to improve the issue by having one coach oversee all three formats, internal strife and back-and-forth have only made the team’s problems worse. Aaqib Javed’s role in the shocking dropping of Gillespie and Kirsten made it unwise to hire him, despite the fact that he had an easy route and was believed to be readily accessible.
