Experts examine CSK’s post-Dhoni era planning in light of MS Dhoni’s IPL 2025 participation.

Experts examine CSK's post-Dhoni era planning in light of MS Dhoni's IPL 2025 participation.

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and their most famous player, MS Dhoni, are once again in the spotlight as the 18th Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament approaches. Even though he resigned as captain before the 2024 IPL season, the 43-year-old is still the most important person in the CSK camp. Former cricket players have discussed what to anticipate from the renowned wicketkeeper-batter in the forthcoming season as part of discussions around his future.

After losing their final league game, CSK finished fifth in the IPL 2024 and just missed out on the playoffs the previous season. But at their High-Performance Center in Navalur, Tamil Nadu, the five-time winners have started a 10-day training camp. Notably, when Dhoni arrived in Chennai, supporters noticed a Morse code message on his t-shirt that purportedly said, “One Last Time.” This has sparked a lot of debate over whether Dhoni’s final season in the IPL could be in 2025. According to former opener Aakash Chopra, CSK has already started making plans for the post-Dhoni era.

“I believe that preparations for the post-Dhoni period have already started. Because it’s clear to us now that Dhoni won’t be playing in that group in the future,” Chopra stated exclusively on JioHotstar.

Additionally, Anil Kumble, the former captain of India, said that Ruturaj would lead the team this season and the veteran might play a less part. It’s interesting that, similar to last season, Kumble brought up the possibility that MS Dhoni’s participation in the team could be impacted by the “impact rule” since he mentors younger players.

It’s possible that MS Dhoni won’t even play this season because Ruturaj is guiding the team.

Retention regulations may allow him to remain on the team, and the impact player rule may allow him to contribute even if he doesn’t play in every game, Kumble continued.

In addition to the Indian icon, former South African captain AB de Villiers also shared his opinions. He highlighted MS Dhoni impact on cricket fans and how he has inspired a new generation of players to pursue the game.

“You have to give him credit for inspiring millions of cricket enthusiasts to watch the game. It is because to players like him who have done a great job of carrying the game for a very long time. “Hopefully, it will last for a few more years,” De Villiers remarked.
