Aaqib Javed was reported by NDTV Sports as stating, “The PCB has started the process of finding a new head coach for the national team and due process would be followed.”
Following their dismal results at the Champions Trophy, when they lost every game, the Pakistani team has been under a lot of criticism. Since they hosted the ICC event, several fans and analysts have already called for changes within the management.
For the 50-over competition, Aaqib Javed served as the Men in Green’s acting head coach. After the tournament, there were rumors that the former player and national selector would be fired, but it appears that PCB has decided to keep him on for the forthcoming New Zealand series. Since PCB is already searching for a replacement to take over, Aaqib Javed has disclosed that he will be leaving the position soon after the white-ball series.
PCB made significant adjustments.
There have been some changes, including the addition of famed batsman Mohammad Yousuf as the team’s hitting coach, but Javed will continue be in command until the board appoints a successor. Additionally, the T20I team’s leadership positions have been updated. For the shortest format, Salman Ali Agha has been selected as the captain, and Shadab Khan will serve as his series deputy.
The team’s concentration on the forthcoming Asia Cup and the T20 World Cup 2026, which will take place the following season, is the board’s explanation for this decision.
“The ACC Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 (September 2025) and the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 (February/March 2026) are two significant upcoming tournaments that have influenced the decision to name Salman as T20I captain and Shadab as vice-captain, respectively,” the PCB stated.
Mohammad Abbas Afridi, Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Haris, Muhammad Irfan Khan, Omair Bin Yousaf, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Sufyan Moqim, Usman Khan, Abdul Samad, Abrar Ahmed, Haris Rauf, Hasan Nawaz, Jahandad Khan, Khushdil Shah, and Salman Ali Agha are the members of the Pakistan T20I team.
