On Tuesday, January 7 at Optus Stadium in Perth, Mitchell Marsh will play for the Perth Scorchers against the Melbourne Renegades in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024–25. The seam bowling all-rounder will return to the league after a nearly three-year hiatus.
Mitchell Marsh last BBL game was against the Sydney Sixers in January 2022. The following season, Marsh missed due to an ankle ailment.
Mitchell Marsh returned to Australia’s Test squad in 2023 for the Ashes.
He was a reliable starter before being benched for the Sydney Cricket Ground’s (SCG) fifth Test match against India last week.
Jhye Richardson, a fast bowler, has also been approved to rejoin the BBL after playing for the Test side in the previous two Border-Gavaskar Trophy matches.
The availability of the remaining Test players will be determined in the following days. Travis Head, who is playing brilliantly right now, has all but guaranteed that he will not be joining the Adelaide Strikers.
“I’m in ruins. Head told Fox Cricket at the SCG on Sunday, “I’m not sure what I’m going to do in the coming days, but we have 10 or 12 days off before we go to Sri Lanka, and I’m going to use every little bit of that.”
Mitchell Marsh departed for Perth on Monday after Australia reclaimed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy by defeating India in the fifth and final Test match. He was replaced by Beau Webster, who made his Test debut in Sydney and showed great batsmanship and ball skills. Mitchell Marsh might play for Perth till the end of the season if he is not included in Australia’s team for their upcoming Test series against Sri Lanka.
Webster may be available for the Melbourne Stars’ return derby against the Renegades on January 12 and their forthcoming game against the Sydney Sixers on Thursday. Scott Boland of the Melbourne Stars may be given a break after his performance in the last two Test matches against India.
