T20I return in sight for Joe Root following SA20 triumph

The selection of Joe Root for England’s three-match series against India suggests that he will be playing in the 50-over format once again. The famous batter has stated that he would like to play for his country again in all formats. Noteworthy, Root’s last T20I came in 2019, and he hasn’t played in an ODI since the 2023 World Cup 50-over.

The right-hander Root, who is now playing for the Paarl Royals in SA20 2025, has had an incredible start to the season, hitting at a pace of 140.20 and scoring 279 runs at an average of 55.80 in eight games. He will now join England prior to India’s ODI series. Root expressed his excitement about playing in upcoming T20 games and said his objective is to make a comeback to England’s T20I lineup.

I’m just attempting to play cricket as good as possible: Joe Root

“I think that when you’re not on the team, you always play better. I’ll just attempt to play cricket as well as I can. England’s Twenty20 Internationals team is full of good guys. “They can deprive the world’s top bowlers of their game,” Root told SA20.

“I want to play for England as much as I can in all formats. He then on, “But I have to play more Twenty20 cricket to prove myself and see where it goes.”

Root was the leading run scorer in cricket’s longest format last year, with 1556 runs at an average of 55.57 in 17 Test matches. He performed admirably when batting. In the ODI series against India, the Sheffield native will be hoping to get some experience because the 2025 Champions Trophy is quickly approaching.
