Ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy, Herschelle Gibbs was unreserved in his criticism of Babar Azam. In a social media response to a fan, the former South African batter also made fun of Babar’s English.
During his time as the head coach of the Karachi Kings in the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Gibbs has collaborated extensively with Babar. According to the former, Babar is hesitant to alter his style of play, even if doing so would enable him to get better and score more runs. Gibbs also emphasized the language barrier, which is a problem for the former captain of Pakistan.
Lately, Babar has had trouble with the bat in all formats. He has scored 10 (23) and 23 (19) against Pakistan and New Zealand, respectively, in the current tri-nation series.
A fan asked Herschelle Gibbs to help Babar get over his lean patch with the willow on Thursday, February 13.
Gibbs claimed that the language barrier makes it challenging to communicate with the great batter.
“Language is an issue with Babar .. as you know his English isn’t great so it’s difficult to get points across to him,” Gibbs posted to X.

Hey Gibbs, How about giving some suggestions to Babar Azam like you did back in 2021/2022 during PSL with Karachi Kings? I guess he won’t deny your interference this time 😉😬

Babar, according to Gibbs, is still performing at the same tempo and flair as when he was with the Karachi Kings.
“Was the first time I was working with him so for me it was a more an observation than anything else but what I’ve seen since then is he hasn’t changed his approach and still plays with the same tempo and same shots,” Gibbs said.
When Babar plays in the tri-nation final between Pakistan and New Zealand on Friday, February 14 at the National Stadium in Karachi, he will try to get back among the runs.
