IND vs ENG 2025: Shubman Gill breaks Amla's record fastest to 2500 ODI runs

Shubman Gill became the fastest batter to score 2,500 runs in ODI cricket, leaving his mark on the record books. During the third and final ODI between India and England on Wednesday, February 12, at the massive Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, the Punjab batsman broke the mark established by Hashim Amla.

In his 53rd South Africa innings, the former legend Amla hit the 2,500-run milestone. For the Men in Blue, Gill reached the milestone in his 50th inning. The right-arm quick Gus Atkinson bowled the tenth over of India’s innings on Wednesday, and the opener smashed a boundary on the fifth ball to reach the 25-run mark that he required to reach 2500 runs in ODIs.

Shubman Gill’s poor play against England in the current series continues. He had scored 52-ball 60 in the second ODI and 96-ball 87 in the first. By smashing 112 off just 102 balls, including 14 fours and three sixes, he turned his start into a significant score in the third ODI.

Shubman Gill maintained his outstanding performance in the ODI series against England.

Rohit Sharma was dismissed by India in the second over after Jos Buttler won the toss and chose to bowl first. However, Gill and Virat Kohli put up an incredible 116 off 107 balls partnership. The latter was removed for a solid half-century, and Gill and Shreyas Iyer then added 104 off 93 deliveries.

Adil Rashid eventually got rid of Gill after he struck three sixes and fourteen fours. This was his sixth century in One-Day International cricket. It comes with fifteen half-centuries. The strike rate for the right-handed batter is 101.93, and his average is 60.16. His innings laid the groundwork for India to score an incredible 356 in the third ODI. The first two games of the three-match series have been won by the hosts, who have already secured the series. In Ahmedabad, though, both teams are giving it their all because this is their final practice before the 2025 Champions Trophy.
