In the third ODI against England on Wednesday, February 12 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Virat Kohli appeared to be getting back to his best. However, Adil Rashid produced a stunning delivery that removed him.
With the Champions Trophy approaching, Kohli would have been itching to get some runs under his belt after being out cheaply in the second ODI and missing the first one owing to a knee injury. Following Rohit’s dismissal by Mark Wood in the second over, the right-handed batter walked out to the crease. Against the England seamers, Kohli batted with a great attitude and scored several wonderful boundaries.
In the 18th over of the innings, the former captain of India reached his 73rd ODI half-century by pushing a leg-spinner from Liam Livingstone through point. He struck seven fours and one six to reach the milestone off just fifty deliveries.
As they awaited a powerful blow from the veteran, they cheered for each run that came off Virat Kohli blade.
But Rashid defeated the 36-year-old with a stunning delivery. After pitching, the seasoned bowler’s flighted delivery against the stumps turned away. Kohli was trying to defend when the ball brushed the outside edge and settled into wicketkeeper Phil Salt’s mitts, but the drift and a little turn overcame him.

After 55 balls, Kohli was out for 52. Together with Tim Southee and Josh Hazlewood, this was his eleventh wicket loss against Rashid across all formats. Rashid took the Delhi batsman’s wicket in ODI cricket for the fifth time in ten innings.
The Men in Blue had a strong first-innings total thanks to Kohli’s 116-run partnership off 107 balls with Shubman Gill, but he was unable to turn his half-century into a three-figure score.
