With a comeback in sight, Delhi Capitals' Shafali Verma ready for new opportunities in WPL 2025

WPL 2025 is almost approaching, and the Delhi Capitals are currently honing their talents in Pune at their preseason camp. As excitement for the upcoming season grows, Delhi Capitals star Shafali Verma talked about the team’s preparations and how the WPL has affected her career.

Playing back-to-back finals in the first two seasons, Verma has been an essential part of the Delhi Capitals. According to her, the WPL gave players a lot of playing time and the chance to meet cricket players from other countries.

“Preparations are actively underway. “This place has a great vibe, and everyone is getting along really well,” Verma said following a first training session.

In the WPL, the players get to play a significant amount of games. Here and there, you have excellent chances to make little adjustments to your game. As a member of the WPL, I have personally discovered how to extend my innings,” she emphasised.

For everyone of us, playing with players from other countries is a unique educational experience. The fact that they maintain their composure both on and off the pitch is one of my favourite things about them. One thing I’ve learnt from playing with the international players is that,” she continued.

The young opener’s family’s encouragement kept her going during a trying time last November when she was left off the ODI team. After scoring 414 runs at an average of 82.80 and a strike rate of 145.26 in five games, including 103 fifties, she emerged as the top run scorer in the recently concluded Senior Women’s One-Day Challenger Trophy. She now has a tremendous desire to return to the national team.

Shafali Verma, the last few months have been difficult.

“I must admit that the last several months have not been easy for me. I was removed from the ODI team a few days after my father had a heart attack. My father supported me during this mentally challenging time, and my family was there for me no matter what. I want to concentrate on scoring runs whenever I get the chance because I’ve come to the realisation that’s my job. She said, “I know I can return stronger if I train well and score runs. That’s the only thing I can control.”

The Delhi Capitals’ WPL 2025 campaign will kick off on February 15, 2025, at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara, against the Mumbai Indians Women.
