Yashasvi Jaiswal and Harshit Rana made their ODI debuts in the first ODI of the three-match series between India and England at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur. After being given this chance, the two—and Jaiswal in particular—had to wait for a while.
Naturally, captain Rohit Sharma led the huddle in congratulating the two. Jaiswal’s young international career was praised by Rohit, who also wished him well in the ODI format going forward.
“Your international career has gotten off to a fantastic start, Jaisu (Jaiswal). You will also find this format to be the most enjoyable. Believe me when I say it, since you have had success in your brief career and we have all we need to perform at this level. And this is only the beginning. As everyone knows, if you get off to a good start, it’s crucial to keep doing it repeatedly. Best wishes from all of us. Before putting the cap on Jaiswal, Rohit said, “I hope you have an amazing career.”

Mohammed Shami gave Rana his cap. Shami, a seasoned right-arm fast, was playing his first ODI since November 2023. He expressed his optimism for Harshit to have a long international career and praised his tenacity in getting to where he is.
“Caps 258 Harshit Rana and 257 Jaiswal. Bravo! Congratulations. You’re finally getting paid for all of the effort you’ve put in to get to this point today. You and your family have a huge day ahead of them. Therefore, the entire staff and I wish you the best. You will be able to serve your country with pride if you are given the chance to play. I hope that you continue to take many wickets and serve for a long time. “Congratulations,” Shami said.
After giving up 26 in the third over of his spell, Harshit bounces back strongly.
In the sixth over of the game, England’s total increased from 26 to 52 as Phil Salt hammered the Delhi-born quick for 26 runs. Harshit, however, remained resilient and was able to take his first few wickets in the format after being added back into the attack. Thanks to a magnificent full-length dive by Jaiswal, Ben Duckett was dismissed.
As of this writing, England is __ at the end of __ overs, with Jacob Bethell and captain Jos Buttler at the crease. India lost the toss earlier in the day and had to field first. Limiting England to the lowest possible first innings total would be the hosts’ goal.
