'We don't want to fear losing a game of cricket'- Gautam Gambhir on Indian team's approach in T20Is

Many fans and commentators have praised the Indian team’s efforts, particularly their brave cricketing approach during the series. Even India’s coach, Gautam Gambhir, expressed his pride in the team’s performance, saying they want to continue playing this way and not worry about losing any games.

After defeating England 4-1 in the five-match series, the Indian team has maintained their supremacy in T20Is. A spectacular century from Abhishek Sharma, who also became the second-fastest Indian centurion in the shortest format, helped the hosts crush the Jos Buttler-led team by 150 runs in the series’ final game at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.

We want to play T20 cricket like that. We want to play high-risk, high-reward cricket rather than be afraid of losing. And these men have done a great job of embracing that philosophy and that approach. Furthermore, I believe that this T20 team’s philosophy is founded on bravery and selflessness. And I believe that these individuals have done it consistently over the past six months,” Gautam Gambhir stated in an interview with Star Sports.

Our goal is to consistently reach 250–260. Additionally, there will be games where we are bundled out for 120–130 in an attempt to do that. And that’s the main goal of Twenty20 cricket. Additionally, you will not receive those significant benefits unless and until you refrain from playing that high-risk cricket. Above all, I believe we are headed in the right direction. We want to keep playing in this manner and not worry about losing anything when those major tournaments arrive,” Gambhir continued.

On Varun Chakravarthy and the bowling attack that dominates the spin throughout the series, Gautam Gambhir

In addition to Abhishek Sharma, Varun Chakravarthy was the series’ second star. He took 14 wickets in the five games and was named Player of the Series. Varun made a spectacular return to international cricket in the previous few series after having a poor showing in the 2021 T20 World Cup. In addition to praising Varun for his metamorphosis, Gambhir gave an explanation for why he only used one specialist pacer throughout the series.

Because England is a top-tier team, I believe his transition from the IPL to international T20 cricket has been fantastic, and this series was likely the standard as well. They have some really good cricketers, and the grounds we’ve played on have been great for batting wickets, and I think his bowling of those hard overs has been amazing,” Gambhir remarked.

“I think it was crucial that Bishnoi and Varun bowled together, especially in the middle phase. With England’s batting lineup, we always knew they would attack us hard in the first six overs.” However, it is the period from seven to fifteen. Could we have those two middle-field wicket-taking options? More significantly, because of the type of cricket we play, we have always desired that No. 8 batsman, even if he doesn’t face many balls. We aim to make every effort. The top seven can occasionally go out there and play even more freely because they have that No. 8 [batter] as a buffer,” Gambhir continued.
