Deepti Sharma appointed as Deputy Superintendent of Police in Uttar Pradesh

Deepti Sharma, the star Indian women’s all-round player, has reached yet another sporting and personal milestone. After a string of impressive performances for the national team, the Agra native was formally appointed as Uttar Pradesh’s Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP). In appreciation of her services to Indian cricket, the state government bestowed this distinction onto her.

Deepti was given her DSP uniform in Moradabad on January 27, 2025, fulfilling her childhood dream of joining the police department. Her appointment letter was personally delivered by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in a special event in 2024. In addition to the esteemed position, the Uttar Pradesh government awarded her a financial prize of INR 3 crore.

Her brothers Sumit and Prashant Sharma, as well as her father Bhagwan Sharma, were among Deepti’s family members who attended the ceremony in Moradabad to celebrate her achievement.

Additionally, I am appreciative of the Uttar Pradesh government for giving me this chance to serve. I commit to serving with integrity and giving my all in my new position as DSP in the Uttar Pradesh Police. Deepti Sharma was India’s top ODI wicket-taker at the end of 2024.

At the 2023 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, the 27-year-old, who has been a member of the Indian squad for more than ten years, was instrumental in Women in Blue’s silver medal-winning performance. She, Smriti Mandhana, and Richa Ghosh were selected to the ICC Women’s T20I Team of the Year 2024.

At the end of 2024, she had taken 30 wickets in T20Is and 24 wickets in women’s ODIs, making her the top wicket-taker in the format. Deepti will continue to play for the UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League (WPL), where she hopes to have a big impact.
