IND vs ENG 2025: Abhishek Sharma twists ankle ahead of 2nd T20I

Ahead of Saturday, January 25, the second T20I match against England, Indian opener Abhishek Sharma hurt his ankle during the net session at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The injury scare occurred during a catching workout on the eve of the game for the southpaw.

On the pitch, the Indian team’s physiotherapist assessed the Punjab batter’s condition. Then, in order to rest his ankle, Abhishek went to the changing room. On his way back to the pavilion, he was observed limping and did not return to the nets to bat. The 24-year-old reportedly stayed in the dressing room with the physio for more than 30 minutes.

Abhishek Sharma had been under fire prior to the series because, in his early international career, he had flattered to deceive.

But in the opening T20I, the batsman showed off his immense potential by hammering 79 runs off of just 34 balls. His adventurous knock included five fours and eight sixes. At the legendary stadium, India overcame a 133-run target to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.

Dhruv Jurel might play if Abhishek is unable to recover in time for the second Twenty20 International. Jurel can be utilized as a floater, while Tilak Varma could start the innings with Sanju Samson. Mohammed Shami, who hasn’t played for India since the 2023 ODI World Cup final, was unable to make the squad in the opening Twenty20 International. The Men in Blue entered the match with three spinners and one front-line seamer.

In an effort to establish a solid rhythm, Shami reportedly put a lot of effort into his bowling at the nets on Friday. The 34-year-old spent a few minutes with fielding coach T Dilip participating in throwing drills. With cricket fans eagerly awaiting his return to the national squad, all eyes will be on the seasoned seamer.
