The first T20I of the five-match series has just finished, and India was no match for England. After being put in to bat, they were unable to capitalize on the circumstances and only managed to score a meager 132 runs. The hosts found it easy to chase down the target with seven wickets and forty-three deliveries remaining.
Jos Buttler, the English white-ball captain, provided a candid evaluation of the circumstances they faced in Kolkata and acknowledged that they did not take full advantage of them. But he had high hopes for the rest of the series.
“I maybe didn’t anticipate that there was a little bit in the wicket early on. They found some movement and we lost a couple of wickets, but it looked like a pretty excellent wicket. However, it’s a rather nice surface and a clear fast-scoring ground if you get past that phase. We tried to enforce the game we wanted to play against some good bowlers, but we weren’t quite able to do that today. Nevertheless, we’re better for the run-out, and we’re excited for the next one,” Buttler said during the post-match presentation.
Buttler also offered commentary on the excursions of Mark Wood and Jofra Archer.
“Jofra Archer is a superstar who always looks good and has a menacing appearance. He could have taken a couple more wickets there, in my opinion. Mark Wood was also bowling quickly. It’s great to watch two of them work together,” he continued.
I love McCullum a lot: Jos Buttler
Buttler continued by stating the style of cricket the side had promised to play. While collaborating with Brendon McCullum, the all-format head coach, he also expressed his feelings.
“We want to be observable and forceful. It’s pretty exciting since we are playing against a team that is also quite aggressive. You must evaluate the situation at each location and perform successfully. I am having a great time in this setting. It’s wonderful to be working with McCullum in the dressing room today, but I’ve always been a huge admirer while he was playing,” Buttler said.
The only man who stepped up to the plate yesterday was Buttler. One of the main factors that helped England reach the final score they put on the board was his 68 off 44 balls.
