‘Mirrors the 2023 ODI World Cup’- Ravichandran Ashwin unhappy with India Champions Trophy team

'Mirrors the 2023 ODI World Cup'- Ravichandran Ashwin unhappy with India Champions Trophy team

Many former players and experts have expressed their thoughts about this team. The recently departed spin bowling all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin also spoke briefly on the sidelines and offered some scathing commentary on the selection process, highlighting the dearth of left-handers in the team and raising doubts about the roles of a few players in the India squad.

The Indian team for the Champions Trophy has been revealed, and several experts have shared their opinions about this choice. Many players who should have been included in the squad for the forthcoming ICC event have been criticised for being left out.

The 2023 ODI World Cup is mirrored in this template, with right-handed Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill opening. And then Virat Kohli. Shreyas Iyer, who did well in the World Cup, probably bats at four. Rahul KL comes next. There is an option between Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja at number six. Hardik is ranked seventh. None of our top seven hitters are left-handed. “Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant are outside the XI,” Ashwin stated during an interview on the “Ash Ki Baat” station.

“Jaiswal might only play if someone is hurt.” With England, he might have a shot. What if he achieves several centuries in a row, though? Opening with Rohit and Jaiswal would move Shubman to number three, and Virat to number four. KL Rahul or Rishabh Pant would then be ranked at five. It’s likely that Shreyas Iyer would be dropped if Jaiswal played. Although improbable, India has to take advantage of Jaiswal’s current performance,” he continued.

R Ashwin critiques the three spinner strategies.

Making reference to the dew factor in Dubai, Ashwin is also dissatisfied with the squad’s selection of several finger spinners. He added that Nitish Reddy, who he believes ought to have been on the team, should have been given an opportunity by the selectors.

Every match in the current ILT20 is affected by dew. Can India afford to use three spinners? The batting is weakened if Washington bats at number eight. He should bat at eight, ideally. Is having a player like Nitish Reddy in the overall scheme of things logical? Two pacers and three spinners will be used if Kuldeep plays at nine. With Nitish, he might bat at number eight, giving Kuldeep and two fast bowlers at number nine. The luxury of having two spinners and four quick bowlers would result from this.

Kuldeep, the main spinner at No. 9, is a lock; I’m not sure if he was taken into account. One fast bowler, I believe, could have been accommodated among the finger spinners. The former cricket player said, “I’m sure there were discussions.”
