Rohit Sharma's retire talks after MCG Test spark rift, leave Gautam Gambhir upset

Rohit Sharma‘s final Test match of his career was scheduled to be the fourth Test of the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Nevertheless, according to the most recent information on the subject, some well-wishers advised him against retiring. This is a few days after the top-order hitter in Sydney mysteriously “opted out” of the final game.

It has been stated by a source with knowledge of the situation that the series against Australia may have seen another retirement, following Ravichandran Ashwin’s.

“After MCG, Rohit had already made his decision. According to the Times of India, “We could have seen another retirement in Australia if his well-wishers from outside hadn’t forced him to change his mind.”

Rohit Sharma and Gautam Gambhir, the head coach, are still at odds, the same source claims.

It is said that Gambhir was not pleased with the aforementioned choice he made. On the eve of the Sydney Test in the New Year, Rohit notably changed his mind.

Rohit had only scored 31 runs in five innings, which was a poor batting performance. The scrutiny on him was heightened by some choices that concerned defensive strategies and batting order changes. Rohit was left out of the 15-man squad for the last Test, and captaincy was passed to Jasprit Bumrah, an excellent Indian bowler.

That being said, Rohit seems to have decided he would not be abandoning the game’s longest format anytime soon. During lunch on the second day of the SCT Test, Rohit casually spoke with broadcaster Star Sports, stating that he was smart enough to make his own decisions and concluded that it wasn’t optimal for him to stay in the starting lineup when he was scoring so few runs.

India’s next task is to play England in a white-ball series, which will bring them the Champions Trophy. After retiring from Twenty20 Internationals last year, Rohit will like to regain his form in the three ODIs against England in order to boost his confidence before the major tournament.
