Reports: Jasprit Bumrah to miss group stage of Champions Trophy 2025 due to back swelling

Jasprit Bumrah, the star Indian pacer, is expected to miss the 2025 Champions Trophy group stage matches because of a reported swelling in his back, according to the most recent information available.

During their meeting in Mumbai on Saturday to shortlist the team for the forthcoming Twenty20 International series against England, the national setup’s selectors reportedly learnt about Bumrah’s fitness. Squads for the Champions Trophy must be announced by Sunday, December 1, 24. On the other hand, it is believed that the Indian Board of Cricket for Control has requested an extension.

Jasprit Bumrah would not be hurried into the squad even if he fully heals at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru, according to a source with deep ties to the BCCI.

“Bumrah will be attending NCA to receive rehabilitation. According to the initial report, his back is swollen but does not appear to have a fracture. Thus, the NCA will be there for three weeks to keep an eye on his recuperation. However, even if they are practice matches to assess his match fitness, he will still need to play one or two matches after that, the source told The Indian Express.

Jasprit Bumrah is expected to be fully recovered by the first week of March, the same source said.

According to reports, the selectors are also debating whether to include the Indian speedster on the list of reserves or in the 15-man team. The governing body will present the International Cricket Council with a tentative team, it has been revealed. It is possible to make changes to the team list up to one week before to the event starting on February 12. This should allow selectors enough time to monitor Bumrah’s recuperation.

On March 2, India and New Zealand will play their final group-stage match. Nevertheless, it is still unclear if Bumrah will be prepared to play against the Kiwis. On February 20 and 23, respectively, India will play Bangladesh and Pakistan before to the aforementioned match.

In case you missed it, Bumrah missed the final innings of the series in Sydney due to a back spasm during the recently finished Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Down Under, the Player of the Series claimed 32 wickets in nine innings.
