Pat Cummins Australia captain likely to miss Champions Trophy 2025

In the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, Australia defeated India at home. They will now play a two-match Test series in Sri Lanka. The series is less significant now that the Australians have advanced to the 2025 World Test Championship final. The squad was unable to use its captain, Pat Cummins, due to ankle pain prior to the series.

Following Australia’s 3-1 triumph over India, Pat Cummins is presently on paternity leave. It is important to remember that the pacer recently welcomed his second child, and he has always been apprehensive of his trip to Sri Lanka. George Bailey, Australia’s chief selector, stated that Cummins has chosen to take paternity leave and broke the sad news that he will soon have scans for an ankle sore.

It’s clear that Pat will be on paternity leave for the foreseeable future. There is some work to be done. He also has a slight sore ankle, so I believe he will have a scan in the following week or two, and we’ll know more about the situation,” Bailey stated, as reported by India Today.

Pat Cummins is not expected to win the 2025 Champions Trophy.

This development has affected not only Cummins’ inclusion in the Sri Lanka series but also his chances of playing in the Champions Trophy 2025, which is set to start on February 19. But when asked about the pacer’s absence from the competition, Bailey received an unclear response. He also provided a recovery update for pacer Josh Hazlewood.

I’m not entirely certain yet. When it comes to Cummins, we’ll have to wait and see where that scan returns and where it’s tracking,” Bailey said.

The news regarding his recovery from the calf injury is doing rather nicely, and he is putting in a lot of effort. Because of how much time he would have missed, it was perhaps a touch tight (for this squad). After considering how we might arrange those cargoes for the quicks, it turned out that he was unable to arrive in time. However, we have every confidence that he will be ready to compete for the Champions Trophy,” he said.
