'He has to bowl left-handed or off one step'- Australian PM Anthony Albanese joked to appreciate Jasprit Bumrah at New Year's meet

During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024–25, Australia has been engulfed in Jasprit Bumrah‘s aura. Having taken 30 wickets in the four games thus far, the right-arm bowler is the top wicket-taker. The 31-year-old will try to defeat the Australian hitters once more in the last game if he wants to keep the title.

The final game is scheduled for Wednesday, January 1, and both sides attended the New Year’s reception at Kirribilli House in Sydney, which was hosted by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and his fiancée Jodie Haydon.

In order to show their appreciation for Jasprit Bumrah’s statement that they could enact legislation that would render the fast bowler’s abilities useless, Albanese made jokes at the meeting.

We could make it mandatory for him to bowl off one step or left-handed. “It’s been really exciting every time he’s come onto the bowl,” Albanese said during the 90-minute event.

In the most recent match at MCG, debutant Sam Konstas was the only batter who made playing Jasprit Bumrah look easy.

His parents were also present at the event, and Albanese said he would take credit because Konstas got his break in the Prime Minister’s XI match against India, where he scored a century.

Albanese went on to say, “Of course, he got his break in the Prime Minister’s XI, and I’m claiming some of the credit, which is my only contribution to national cricket.”

India can still win the BGT series, but their chances of reaching another WTC final appear slim because, even if they win or draw the fifth Test, they will still need to ensure that the Australians do not win any games in the island nation.
