Australia defeated India by a massive 184-run margin in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), putting them up 2-1 in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Superb bowling strategies and some subpar batting performances by the visiting squad, particularly by captain Rohit Sharma and senior player Virat Kohli, were the main drivers of this convincing victory.
India’s chances of winning another Test Series in Australia have been destroyed by the Australians’ victory at the MCG, and their chances of making it to the WTC Finals have also become more difficult.
Nitish Kumar Reddy and Yashasvi Jaiswal didn’t have much to offer, but Rohit and Virat’s inability to guide the Indian team with the bat has been a huge source of worry throughout the series. Although Rohit missed Kohli’s century in the Perth Test, the captain came back to play the remainder of the series, but his batting contribution was negligible.

Rohit Sharma dismal 2024 campaign
Rohit is without a doubt one of the greatest hitters of the contemporary age, but judging by his red-ball cricket exploits, he has fallen short of his own expectations. He has only amassed 164 runs at an average of 10.93 in the last 15 innings.
In terms of his overall performance in the calendar year, the Nagpur native has scored 619 runs at a score of 24.76 in Test matches. Additionally, this is Rohit’s lowest average in a single calendar year; the previous low was recorded in 2015, when the hitter averaged 25.07 in seven games.
