It has been difficult for all-rounder Mitchell Marsh to get going in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Only 73 runs at an average of 10.42 have been scored by the 33-year-old in four games thus far. His position in the XI has been discussed.
In the meantime, Ashton Agar has defended Marsh, saying he is still capable of playing for Australia in all three forms. Although the Perth native had a difficult series, he expects him to improve in the series’ final Test, which starts in Sydney on January 3.

He can accomplish that. He remains one of the nation’s top six batters. He’s clearly had some difficult times lately, but he’s a strong man. He has experienced enough in his career to recover. “I know that’s how he’ll be thinking about it,” Yahoo! News reported Agar as adding, “Selection just takes care of itself.”

In the Sheffield Shield, Agar most recently played for Western Australia. But he doesn’t care all that much about returning to international cricket. In reference to a “mistake” he made earlier in his career, the all-rounder stated that he does not keep track of the picks.
“I don’t follow the squad or the selection. Naturally, there was a lot of commotion around the arrival of (Sam) Konstas and (Nathan) McSweeney. To be honest, I don’t really keep track of my own selection. Earlier in my career, I most likely committed that error. I now understand that if I just concentrate on playing the game in front of me as best I can, everything will work itself out. That way, to be honest, it’s far less stressful,” he continued.
