Jasprit Bumrah is India's most successful Test bowler in SENA nations

In the current fourth Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah put on yet another outstanding display. In the five-match BGT 2024-25 (Border-Gavaskar Trophy) Test series, the 31-year-old fast bowling expert has once again carried the Indian bowling assault on his shoulders by taking the most wickets.

In the BGT series, Bumrah has now claimed 29 wickets. Some Indian bowlers have found it difficult, but the Gujarat-born bowler has persisted in tricking the Australian hitters. The fiery pacer shook the top order in the Melbourne Test, also known as the “Boxing Day” Test, and once again drew Team India back into the match. Consequently, in the Melbourne Test match alone, he has claimed eight victims.

In the 13 games he has played in 2024, the top Test bowler in the ICC rankings has claimed 70 wickets. Jasprit Bumrah became the best Indian bowler in the SENA Nations (South Africa, England, New Zealand, and Australia) with yet another fantastic effort at the MCG.

Notably, Bumrah has claimed 142 wickets in the 35 games he has played for Team India in these nations. In summary, the 31-year-old has claimed 61 wickets in Australia, 37 in England, six in New Zealand, and 38 in South Africa by country-specific wicket total.

Akram’s record is almost being broken by Jasprit Bumrah.

Wasim Akram, a former Pakistani legend, is at the top of the bowling record for Asian bowlers who have taken the most wickets in SENA nations. In his 32 games in these countries, Akram has taken 146 wickets. Bumrah, who is closely pursuing him, is currently five wickets away from shattering his long-standing record.

Speaking of his Test career, Jasprit Bumrah has an amazing average of 19.49 and an economy of 2.76, taking 202 wickets in 44 Test matches. His season in all three game types is exemplified by this series in Australia.
