Senior Women's One-Day Trophy 2024: Shafali hits 197 in lost cause after India snub

Shafali Verma, who smashed 197 off 115 in the last quarterfinal of the Senior Women’s One-Day Trophy in Rajkot, gave Haryana an outstanding showing. Bengal made history by chasing down 390 with five wickets remaining and five balls remaining, despite her best efforts. This chase was the most successful in women’s List A cricket.

With a solid opening partnership of 173 runs with Reema Sisodia (58 off 72), the 20-year-old opener hit 22 fours and 11 sixes. With her knock, Haryana reached 389/5. The total was set in large part by the contributions of Sonia Mendhiya (61) and Triveni Vasistha (46), which gave their bowlers a formidable goal to defend.

Shafali’s total of 527 runs in seven games at an average of 75.28 and a strike rate of 152.31 now stands at her second century of the tournament. She is attempting to regain her spot in the Indian squad at the same time as she is displaying exceptional domestic cricket form. Indian captain Harmanpreet Kaur had described Shafali as essential to India’s plans a few weeks before.

“She [Shafali] is a key member of our team and has performed remarkably well for the nation.

We hope she will find her rhythm again and contribute positively to the team.

Bengal’s chase was powered by openers Sasthi Mondal (52 off 29) and Dhara Gujjar (69 off 49), who gave them a head start and amassed 100 runs in only 9.1 overs. Tanusree Sarkar, who had previously bagged 3 for 56, also produced a crucial knock of 113 off 83 balls. After Sarkar was dismissed, the chase experienced some setbacks, but Bengal made it to the end because to Priyanka Bala’s unbeaten 88 off 81, which served as the innings’ fulcrum.
